Mayor of Guangzhou Zhang Guangning came to the chosen the site of Asian Games Village in Shilou, Panyu District of Guangzhou, host city of the 16th Asian Games in 2010.

He inspected the layout and construction of the Village and pointed out that the construction and supporting infrastructure in the neighborhood should be sped up, which would begin construction at the end of this year.

The Asian Games Village is expected to be completed within two years and be built into first-class modern buildings.

Mayor Zhang stressed that the Phase I Project of the Asian Games Village should both meet the demands of the games and take the reasonable use after games into full consideration. The relevant authorities should make an all-around arrangement with the environment improvement and the construction of the supporting municipal facilities in the surrounding area; provide unified planning of the land construction of the Asian Games Village, for the resettlement of the masses who were removed and whose land was expropriated, and for economic development. The related construction projects shall be implemented simultaneously with the construction of the Asian Games Village to share the construction achievements of the Asian Games Village.

At the top of the Lianhua Mountain, Mayor Zhang also found out the layout concept of the protection of Hai'ou Island and the surrounding villages in detail, He demanded relevant authorities to preserve the beautiful rural surroundings and give prominence to the villages with Lingnan features and fully protect the ecological green landscape.
