Since the first foreign trade route of Guangzhou, South China, was opened at the Nansha Automobile Ro/Ro Wharf, nearly 200 Dongfeng heavy trucks have been shipped to the Middle East using the facility.
Currently the monthly capacity of Xinsha and Nansha Automobile Ro/Ro Wharf has exceeded ten thousand units. Driven by automobile manufacturing and consumption in South China, Guangzhou Port is expected to be an important sea transport portal for China.
Guangzhou has also become an auto production and sales hub and the auto industry has become a pillar of the city’s economy. According to insiders, auto logistics distribution has shifted from the container system to Ro/Ro.
By taking advantage of the shorter distance between Guangzhou port and the Middle East and Europe, Guangzhou plans to intensify the building of professional automobile Ro/Ro wharfs. Currently Xinsha Automobile Ro/Ro Wharf in the east and Nansha in the west have been put in place.
In 2007, the loading and unloading of automobiles in Guangzhou ports` Ro/Ro facilities totaled 164,000 units of which 90,000 were attributed to foreign trade, an increase of 124.2% and 96.8% respectively.
