On January 25th, a ceremony was held in the science city for establishment of a research center of Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Those attending the ceremony included Professor Li Jiayang, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of the institute, Vice Mayor Xu Zhibiao and Research Fellow Zhong Nanshan, Chairman of Chinese Medical Association. 

Xu Zhibiao said at the ceremony that the research center should play a leading role in developing bio-pharmacy. It is said that bio-pharmacy is one of the four industries winning priority development suggested by a document to be formulated by Guangzhou Municipal Government and Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC for promoting independent innovation and hi-tech development.
