To China, a country with a large "floating" population, traveling can often be a challenging prospect. In particular, the inter-city travel peak before and after the Spring Festival, also called Chun Yun, is regarded as a major travel event for the country every year.
2009's Chun Yun will take place from Jan. 11th to Feb. 19th. Guangzhou, home to one-fourth of the country's Chun Yun passengers, is set to begin its travel rush on Jan. 1st. The transportation system of the city is preparing to handle some 270 thousand passengers during that time, with six major ticket offices and some additional smaller ticket windows being set up.
Also, some trains from Guangzhou to north China will depart from other cities in the Pearl River Delta, such as Shenzhen, Dongguan and Foshan.
50 thousand passengers are to be distributed to the Pazhou Complex, which will be converted into a temporary waiting room during the Chun Yun peak time. Passengers will be shuttled by metro from the Pazhou Complex to the Guangzhou Railway Station from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. every night according to government arrangement.
